Over the years, people have often asked me the same question, what exactly do you do, and how does it all fit together?

I can understand why. MoodBlogs was chosen to reflect both my love of interiors and the writing side of my work; from the articles I write to the concepts I put together for clients. While it reflects an important part of what I do, it does not always show the full picture, so I thought I would answer a few of the questions that tend to come up.

More Than Articles

Some people come across my work through my articles, while others find me through my website, Instagram, LinkedIn or word of mouth. Because my business name leans more editorial, it can sometimes suggest only one side of what I do.

What do you do as an interior decorator?

I help people make clearer, more confident decorating decisions in their home. My work focuses on the mood, flow and overall direction of a space, from layout and furniture placement through to colour, rugs, lighting, artwork, soft furnishings and the details that help a room feel considered and cohesive.

Do you offer interior design services?

I work within interior decorating, offering consulting, space planning solutions and decorating guidance rather than interior design services.

What is the difference between interior decorating and interior design?

Interior design extends further into structural planning, joinery, renovations and technical documentation, while interior decorating is more focused on the visual direction, atmosphere and overall feel of a space.

While I am certified as an interior decorator, my experience has not been limited to the decorative side alone. Over the years, I have also been involved in kitchen and bathroom renovations, small-scale structural planning and technical drawings. I have always had an instinct for design and how a space should come together, both visually and practically, even though I chose not to pursue the full interior design path in a formal sense.

What has shaped your approach to interiors?

A lot of it has been shaped by life at home itself. As children grow up, leave home and family life changes, the way we live in a space will change too. Over time, that made me more aware of how important layout, comfort and function really are.

That is why lifestyle is so important and comes first in the way I approach interiors. Before making a space look beautiful, I think about how it needs to work, how it should feel and how it can better support everyday life for my client. For me, rather than focusing only on trends, I prefer to place importance on mood. Mood matters in an interior, because it is often the first thing people respond to, even before they notice individual pieces. One of the most overlooked aspects of decorating is how deeply mood affects the way a room is experienced.

Do you offer in-home consultations?

Yes. I offer in-home consulting for local clients. Seeing a space in person allows me to view its proportions and natural light through to its layout and the smaller details that photographs may not always reveal.

Can you also work remotely?

Yes. I have worked remotely with clients over the years, so I am comfortable consulting that way when needed. I can work from photographs, floor plans and measurements, which can be especially helpful for interstate clients.

For local projects, I now tend to lean more towards in-home consulting, as it allows me to respond more fully to the space itself. Even so, remote work can still be a very effective option in the right circumstances.

Do you provide mood-boards as part of your service?

Yes. Mood-boards are an important part of how I communicate my ideas. They help bring together colour, shape, and tone in a way that feels visually grounded. For many people, seeing a concept come together makes everything easier to understand. My mood-boards sit alongside all of my articles, adding a visual dimension to the ideas I am exploring.

What do you want people to understand most about your work?

That I am here to make the decorating process clearer, more considered and more personal. I want spaces to feel welcoming, and reflective of the people who live in them. Writing is also a big part of my creative world, and over time I expect that side of my work to continue evolving in its own way.
